We have tested the Denon HEOS multiroom app! The Denon brand is best known for its award-winning AV receivers and amplifiers, but that’s not all. The company offers a wide range of products – from speakers to subwoofers, amplifiers to wireless speakers – all of which can be connected to HEOS ’multi-room system. Download the HEOS App for iOS or Android by searching App Store, Google Play store or Amazon Appstore for “HEOS”. Basic operation. Playing a USB memory device. Listening to music on a Bluetooth device. Listening to FM/AM broadcasts. Listening to Internet Radio. Playing back files stored on a PC or NAS. To setup, simply connect the HEOS AVR to your TV with a single cable, download the HEOS App and follow the instructions. Within minutes, the HEOS AVR is ready to receive. Control all your sound easily via the app, or command the HEOS AVR with the included HEOS remote control or your TV remote. It couldn't be more convenient. Download the HEOS app for iOS or Android by searching App StoreSM, Google Play™ store or Amazon for “HEOS by Denon”. For the purpose of improvement, the specifications and design are subject to change without notice. EDIT: This is probably going to be an issue in the coming months for anyone using HEOS as in some cases all network activity will be killed off when you use the HEOS app when it prompts you to update. That means no WiFi, no Bluetooth and no Ethernet. Diagnostics will show a failure in router access and your IP will show as 0.0.0.0.

How can I create a share in the HEOS app to access music from my network source?

With the release of the latest HEOS App, you will now see a new option in the HEOS App called “Network Shares”.

Network Shares will allow the user to access music files (including iTunes music) from a PC, Apple Mac or NAS making the music files accessible from the HEOS App.
To make this feature work, you will need to setup your HEOS device using the HEOS App and also setup your computer to allow access to the music on your PC. (Windows or Mac).
Computer / NAS Setup

  • You can share a whole drive if you want but typically you will not want to. You will want to share the top level folder that includes all your music but nothing more. For iTunes that will be something like user/music/itunes/itunes media/music
  • HEOS can index up to about 40.000 tracks and folders (underneath that folder 'music' you shared)
  • You will need to change the folder sharing settings to allow the users access to the music files on your computer from the HEOS App.
How do I configure shares in Windows to be used with HEOS?
How do I configure shares in Mac OSX to be used with HEOS?
  • For NAS you need to follow the instructions by the NAS manufacturer to share - that might be automatic in some cases and you'll just need to know what the drive is called on the network and log into it

HEOS Device setup

  • You need to add the share to one of the HEOS devices on your network, where it (The share) will be configured.
  • To configure the share, you will need to know the name of the folder you want to share, the path to the folder’s location, your PC user name and password. With the exception of your PC’s password, all this information could be easily retrieved from your computer.
How do I configure the access to my shares in the HEOS app?
  • After configuration, the folder in your PC and its content become available on the HEOS App in Music > Music Servers.
  • You can add 300 songs max to the queue even though HEOS can browse tens of thousands of tracks.
