Volvo – The Game is a free racing simulationvideo game for Windows, developed by SimBin Studios (later Sector3 Studios) and released in May 2009.[1][2][3] When the game launched Volvo also organized an online competition. The winner got a set of Pirelli tires.[4]

Game

History[edit]

  1. Volvo Car Corporation and SimBin Development Team released Volvo: The Game in May, 2009. It was completely free, and could be downloaded originally from the Volvo Web site. A fairly interesting marketing experience, the software was downloaded more than 50,000 times in two days. The software was developed with quite a few optimizations to try.
  2. Volvo and Simbin have released Volvo – The Game, a free driving simulation containing various Volvo cars that can be raced on two tracks. Despite being free, Volvo – The Game offers a rich choice of cars as players can get their hands on some of the most famous racing cars in Volvo’s history.

The game was released on May 26, 2009.[5] It was developed with the intention of showcasing the interior and exterior of Volvo cars, and as such was released free of charge.[6]

Gameplay[edit]

Game

Volvo – The Game includes six cars from Volvo and two race tracks.[7] Cars include the Volvo C30, S60, S40, 850 and the 240 Turbo Group A.[8] The race tracks are the Gothenburg Eco Drive Arena and Chayka.[9]

The racing game announced in April by Volvo Cars and game development company SimBin has been released and it's available for free! Players are able to choose between the Volvo C30 which is competing in this year's STCC ( Swedish Touring Car Championship), the STCC Volvo S60 that participated a few years ago, the Volvo S40 that participated with notable success in the BTCC the Volvo. “When Volvo Cars asked us if we were able to develop a Volvo racing game for PC, suitable for a wide audience and including the new S60 Concept car, we picked up on the challenge straight away” says Henrik Roos, SimBin Studios CEO.

The player can choose between racing with other opponents or racing alone against a record time for one lap.

The game was sponsored by Pirelli, who are the in-game tire manufacturer.[10]

Reception[edit]

The game was praised for its graphics and drivers' seat view, but criticised for only having two racing tracks.[11][12][13][14]
