Teamviewer Commercial Use Detected Fix With Change

TeamViewer is a remote desktop solution available for both Windows and macOS. It has a free version that allows users to use it in a personal role and a commercial version that allows users to use it for work ie, it is meant for companies. With both versions, the best remote experience comes when users login to their TeamViewer account.

It appears TeamViewer is being used in a commercial environment. TeamViewer is offered free of charge to everybody for personal, non-commercial use – and most of our users play by the rules by purchasing a license if they intend to use TeamViewer for commercial purposes. Today i got the 'Commercial use detected' message. As the title says, been using it for at least 8 years for helping my mother with her computer very sparcely, i connect to it about one every month or two.

Commercial use of TeamViewer found in Windows 10

Use

TeamViewer users sometimes get a message that the app has detected that it is being used commercially. This message is a stop message that will stop the application / end the remote session 5 minutes after it appears. If you see this message, make sure;

  • You do not have too many sessions or active links. One of the things this message can convey is.
  • If you have started and left several sessions, restart the systems on which you started these sessions. It is possible that they did not stop properly and a system restart will solve the problem.

If you still see the message when you try to create a new session, try the solutions below.

1. Install and reinstall TeamViewer

TeamViewer is easy to set up and use but it is a complex app nonetheless and could run into its own problems. If you see the message ‘Detect commercial usage’, uninstall and reinstall TeamViewer by following these steps.

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. go to Programs> Enter a program.
  3. Select TeamViewer from the applications list.
  4. Click on the Uninstall button.
  5. Wait for the app to uninstall.
  6. Tap on the Win + R keyboard shortcut. to open the run box.
  7. In the run box, applyregedit and tap on the Enter key.
  8. Go to this key: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWARETeamViewer
  9. Right click on the Key TeamViewer and select Delete from the context menu.
  1. Next, go to this key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARETeamViewer
  2. Delete TeamViewer.
  3. Tap on the Win + R keyboard shortcut. again to open the run box.
  4. Enter%appdata% in the run box and tap on the Enter key.
  5. Delete the TeamViewer folder.
  6. Open the run box again with the Win + R keyboard shortcut. and into %temp% in the run box.
  7. Delete the TeamViewer folder.
  8. Restart the system.
  9. Download and install the free version of TeamViewer.

2. Change the MAC address

Computers are identified by their MAC address and this address does not change automatically. It is automatic / set. Users can change though and sometimes by fixing the ‘commercial search’ error.

  1. Open Device manager.
  2. Expand Network adapters.
  3. Double-click the network administrator and go to the Advanced Tab.
  4. In the Properties column, select Network Address.
  5. in the Value box, enter a new MAC address. you can one was generated with this machine.
  6. Click Submit and restart the system.

3. Check TeamViewer account and communication support

If you have more than one TeamViewer account, or have used both a free and commercial account on the same system, your system may be marked as commercial. Contact TeamViewer support and ask if they can help. Also, check that your TeamViewer subscription (if you have one) is up to date and that there are no fees.

Conclusion

TeamViewer is a great free solution for remote desktop sessions. Windows remote desktop feature often runs into problems and is difficult for many to install. If you want remote access with the feature, you need to be running Windows 10 Pro. That’s why many users prefer TeamViewer.

CommercialTeamviewer Commercial Use Detected Fix With Change

I´ve posted here only to say that this problem (“Commercial Use Suspected!”) happened to me too, this week...

Since I began using TeamViewer 3, I used LogMeIn and a lot of other tools, but LogMeIn offered poorer service and features, upgrade after upgrade. TeamViewer was something unstable in the first releases, but corrected the bugs and stabilized after each upgrade. Until release 6-7 was Ok and no more problems (like this “Commercial Use Suspected!”) happened, at reasonable speed and stability. But only recently they came to appear with these stupid 'business rule change' and in the beginning of this week (during some remote access) was possible to see that no more than 5 minutes could be possible to stay remote, a very serious problem to someone that used this tool...

Well, for a company that have a lot of persons in the IT area and a large budget, maybe ~$749,00 could be not so expensive, but for someone that should pay your bills every month doing some support, maybe could be not so cheap. Maybe this not passed in the heads of the TeamViewer team, or something like this.

And even when doing some remote support for anyone, I suggested to they use TeamViewer and a lot of these people did so, acquiring a proper license.

But when I started to have serious problems with TeamViewer (like this “Commercial Use Suspected!”) I restarted immediately to research again and found a suggestion to use other tool, named impcremote and started to test it, but stopped these tests after noting a serious unstability (VNC based features, mouse movement, lack of PrintScreen of remote desktop to save it, to mention some few problems I encountered)...

Than I started to research again and after some hours and being very tired to continue, I´ve found Remote Utilites (http://www.remoteutilities.com/) and gave a last try. Only used RUT (Remote UTilities) agent and the portable viewer and I was very impressed with the stability and useful features, to mention some of them:

•Was possible to aggregate all remote desktops in only one console, using tabs;
•Was possible to reconfigure the remote agent, restart it and reconnect again;
•Was possible to see that even when using Agent, the process is simple and stable;
•Was possible to put in some hosts, without limitation of number of these hosts;
•Was possible to use tabs including in the File Transfer window, to reference other folders from/same or different places;
•Was possible to access the remote command prompt locally, from the remote host;
•Was possible to reconnect automatically, when some connection problems happened;
•Was possible to use it´s own repeater (free self-hosted firewall bypass server you can install on your premises; the trial version of Remote Utilities also works with GMS);
•All of these features and others, without painfull process and at lower cost: $29,95 per computer (also exist other types, too)...
Well, fortunately these TeamViewer 'business rule change' produced a good result, being possible to find another stable product for a better price.

Please help me and other unfortunate TeamViewer users by propagate that this other tool (Remote Utilities) is a good and viable replacement to maintain remote help and help TeamViewer to reduce their servers workload and user base, from 100.000.000 to near 3 or 4 users around the entire world, giving back to them a correct answer for their stupid 'business rule change'...
